Makita Cordless Drill
Cordless drills are simply electric drills that switch out the cord and use a plug in battery. The cordless drill's popularity is mostly due to its convenience and ease of use. When building or working on a project, electricity is often not easy to come by. This usually means extra long extension cords and/or generators. Then along comes the cordless drill which eliminates all that hassle. The Makita cordless drill does have its drawbacks of course, it’s only as good as the charge in its battery, you always have to remember to charge it and often have to wait for it to charge, batteries do eventually wear down and need to be replaced and of course cordless drills usually have less torque than the conventional electric drill.
Got Battery?
Like all technology, the cordless drill has advanced over time and this has mostly to do with the battery. The first widely used cordless drills was the 7.2 volt nickel-cadmium battery pack. These nickel-cadmium type batteries take 12 hours to charge and will give you less than 90 minutes of work time. They are a bit on the heavy side and their charge degrades relatively quickly. Today's preferred battery is the 18 volt lithium-ion battery. It is light weight, can rapidly recharge in only 15 minutes, provides four times the work to charge ratio and can hold a full charge for years. The lithium-ion drawbacks are that they do need to be replaced faster than the nickel-cadmium, they are much more expensive and they do not perform well in cold temperatures.
Their Best Selling Combo Kit
Makita launched its first cordless drills in December of 1978, the 6010D. It is a 7.2 volt nickel-cadmium rechargeable drill and thousands of them are still in use today. Of course things have advanced quite a bit over the thirty plus years and Makita now proudly offers its latest line of 18 volt lithium-ion cordless drills. Their best selling 3 piece combo Makita cordless drill is the LCT300W Makita 18V Combi Drill Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit.
